Knowles Home Furnishings -
Full Service with a Smile!

by Kerry Soliz

Who would have thought that a couple of young kids in middle school could fall in love, grow up, marry, have four beautiful daughters and start a successful furniture store right here in Moab?

Chris and Kim Knowles of Knowles Home Furnishings did just that.

Chris Knowles was born and raised here in Moab and graduated from Grand County High School. Kim’s parents, John and Rachel McDonald, moved to Moab when Kim was a year old. She is also a Grand County High graduate. Chris left Moab to attend college at Salt Lake Community College and then Utah State University where Kim was attending. He graduated with a degree in Electronics.

After college, the Knowles returned to Moab to work in and eventually manage Moab Hardware, owned by Chris’s parents, Don and JoAnn Knowles. They stayed at Moab Hardware for 15 years before deciding to strike out on their own with Moab’s first full service home furnishings store; Knowles Home Furnishing.

Full service is the key word at this fine furniture store. Knowles Home Furnishings carries many styles of furniture and name brands such as Broyhill, Lane and La-Z-Boy. In addition to furniture, they carry appliances by GE and Whirlpool, electronics by Zenith, Pioneer and JVC, office furniture, floor coverings, window treatments by Hunter Douglas, Levelor and Kirsch and a complete line of kitchen cabinets by Carmen and Prestige. Not only are these items carried in the store, but Knowles Home Furnishings offers professional installation of all their products by knowledgeable, helpful staff.

Chris and Kim wanted to create a place where home furnishings could be shown to their best advantage. To achieve this end they hired an architect from California who after conferring with them designed the interior to reflect a warm homey atmosphere while still having many individual room settings to walk through and display areas full of products to make your home more beautiful as well as functional.

One of the most striking things one notices upon entering the store, besides the vast size and array of furniture, is the aroma of scented candles on display near the front door. Knowles Home Furnishings carries a wide selection of candles with scents ranging from traditional holiday fragrances to fresh linen and everything in between. There are many smaller gift items to choose from throughout the store. Silk plants grace most of the living room settings, teddy bears lounge on the sofas, napkin holders and salt and pepper shakers decorate the dining room sets, and every holiday there are Santas or Easter Bunnies or Shamrocks waiting to be discovered as you wander among the displays.

Customers have come from all around the Four Corners area to purchase furniture from Knowles. Kim laughs and says, “We even had a man from Tennessee stop in and custom order furniture from us”. This gentleman from Tennessee paid to have his furniture shipped, but Knowles Home Furnishings offers free delivery in South Eastern Utah.

Whether you are looking for a La-Z-Boy recliner for Father’s Day, new carpet for the living room, a car stereo, a washer/dryer set, art work to decorate your walls with or that little something to give someone as a house warming present, Knowles Home Furnishings is the place to shop.
