The
WabiSabi Thriftique, a thrift store on 400 East, will be
moving across the street from its present location to the
building that was formerly the Moab Mortuary.
Since 2002 WabiSabi has been operating thrift stores in Moab.
It currently has two stores, the WabiSabi Thriftique and the
WabiSabi Warehouse. The Thriftique specializes in quality used
clothing for adults, sports gear, collectibles, books, and
jewelry. The Thriftique is unlike a typical thrift store and
resembles a boutique with its eye-catching displays and trendy
merchandise. The WabiSabi Warehouse, WabiSabi’s other
thrift store, sells discount clothing, children’s items,
furniture, house wares, electronics, and building supplies.
It is located at 145 W 200 South.
Only the Thriftique will be moving to the new location. The
WabiSabi Warehouse will continue to operate at its current
location.
All of the items sold at both stores come from donations. The
money raised by the sales of these items is used to provide
financial awards to other Moab based nonprofits, and fund WabiSabi’s
programs including workshops, community meals, and The WabiSabi
Nonprofit Network.
WabiSabi’s mission statement describes the organization
as a community life force that empowers people, promotes sustainability
and turns rags in to riches.
A grand opening celebration will be held on Friday January
11th. The day will include a ribbon cutting ceremony and refreshments.
There will also be models
wearing pieces from outfits that will be featured in WabiSabi’s
Mardi Gras Fashion Show. The fashion show is a fundraiser for
WabiSabi that includes outrageous outfits made out of recycled
materials and designed by local artists. The outfits are auctioned
off to the highest bidder. This will be WabiSabi’s 6th
fashion show and will take place on Tuesday, February 5th at
The Moab Brewery. Tickets for the fashion show will go on sale
the day of the opening celebration.
Anyone interested in volunteering to help with the move should
call WabiSabi at 259-9114.
