NON-PROFIT HAPPENINGS - February 2008

Puttin’ On The Ritz at Castle Creek Winery

Its time once again to dust off your dancing shoes and get ready to kick up your heels at Seekhaven’s annual benefit “PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ”. This year’s event will be held February 9th at the beautiful Castle Creek Winery at Red Cliffs Lodge. Social Hour @ 5:30 PM, Dinner @ 7:00 PM, Live music by the band “Contagious”, Musical numbers by Moab’s “Valley Voices”, silent auction, and door prizes throughout the evening.

This is a gala celebration you won’t want to miss! Advanced tickets are on sale now for $40 per person and can be picked up at Zions Bank, Norm’s Barbershop, Arches Book Co, Seekhaven Resource Center, and are available from any board member. A limited number of tickets will be on sale at the door the night of the Ritz for $45; however, due to limited seating we encourage early ticket purchase. 100% of all the proceeds go to benefit Seekhaven.

Domestic violence continues to plague our community and make the highly held values of freedom, self-determination, and independence nonexistent for many of our citizens. Such violence affects us at every level of our society, taxing the cost and availability of medical, legal, law enforcement, and social service delivery systems. Businesses, large and small, are impacted by increased insurance fees and employee lost time and productivity expenses. Family and intimate violence can no longer exist behind closed doors veiled in secrecy and shame.

2008 will be a year of community education and involvement. More than ever, we are relying on you, the citizens of Grand County to help us increase awareness and education regarding domestic violence. Living in a world that is faced with such turmoil can at times seem overwhelming and leave each of us feeling that there is not much any one person can do. Here at Seekhaven we believe that changes can and do most often occur at the ground level, within our homes, our neighborhoods, our town. We know the difference that even one person can make in the lives of many. Seekhaven strives to be the type of facility that is committed to its responsibility to achieve the spirit of its mission statement.

Seekhaven is committed to building safe and healthy communities by providing:

1.Shelter and Resources for families in crisis and victims of violence.
2.Preventative education for youth and community members.

Seekhaven will continue to provide the types of services that will make a difference in the lives of those impacted by all forms of violence. We need to keep acting with the assurance that each one of us can make a positive difference in our community—because at the end of the day, that single first step is what changes lives. Take that first step with us February 9th at Moab’s Valentines Day weekend extravaganza, “PUTTIN’ ON THE RITZ”.
