SUSTAINABLE HAPPENINGS April 2018

Spring into Sustainability

Whether you enjoy rafting, jeep touring, hiking, bicycling, top roping, or just  walking your dog, It’s easy to see why people visit or reside in Moab. Through our combined efforts, we are building a sustainable plan that values the importance of this amazing environment. In 2018, we launched the Superbulb Superbowl Challenge among City and Grand County staff, developers, non-profits and the business community to address energy efficiency through the simple actions of changing traditional incandescent bulbs to LED lights. Grand County’s Win was reminiscent of Super Bowl XXIV: San Francisco 49ers 55, Denver Broncos 10. The County staff accounted for the highest participation. Cumulative savings will be 7 tons of pollution and over $10,000 in savings that can be reinvested into the community. Thanks to Red Rock Bakery, Busy Bees Farm and Bynum Developers for their participation. Other opportunities for energy conservation include signing up for the free Green to Gold Sustainability Program, registering for a lighting assessment or requesting a Home Efficiency Start Kit. Links to how to  sign up are available on sustainablemoab, com or email the Sustainability Director at rrusso@moabcity.org

Turning to another valuable resource, our spring challenge centers on water conservation. There are activities for kids and adults. Try any of the activities for a week or the month and return your pledge card by April 13 or email rrusso@moabcity.org  and identify which actions you took to win locally sourced prizes
