Stunts, Stars and Legends
By John Hagner

Clayton Moore by John HagnerThe Lone Ranger
How many Lone Rangers have appeared in films and television? Here is the most famous Lone Ranger from television ... Clayton Moore.

He started out as a circus acrobat ... then a stuntman in the movies. He came to the Hollywood Stuntmen’s Hall of Fame back in the early 1980s and was footprinted in cement. We became good friends from then on. He was kind enough to sign my original drawing of him on Silver.

I did a portrait montage of the Lone Rangers, but don’t have all the names.

Two in particular were Lee Powell (Republic Serial- 1938) and Robert Livingston (Republic “The Lone Ranger Returns”- 1939). I footprinted him in cement also.

Charlton Heston
Charlton Heston by John Hagner
As a Hollywood star, he appeared in 100 films over the course of 60 years. He played Moses in the epic film, “The Ten Commandments” (1956), for which he received his first nomination for the Golden Globe Award for Best Actor - Motion Picture Drama. He also starred in “Touch of Evil” (1958) with Orson Welles, “Ben-Hur” (1959), for which he won the Academy Award for Best Actor, “El Cid” (1961), and “Planet of the Apes” (1968). He also starred in the films “The Greatest Show on Earth” (1952), “Secret of the lncas” (1954), “The Big Country” (1958) and “The Greatest Story Ever Told” (1965).

Heston was born in 1923 in Evanston, Illinois. In an interview in 1995, he said he was not very good at remembering addresses or his early childhood. He was partially of Scottish descent, but the majority of his ancestry was English.

In 1944, Heston enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Forces. He served for two years as a radio operator and aerial gunner aboard a B-25 Mitchell medium bomber stationed in the Alaskan Aleutian Islands with the 77th Bombardment Squadron of the Eleventh Air Force. He reached the rank of staff sergeant.
