BUSINESS HAPPENINGS - October 2020

The Bowen Motel: Here for You Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow
By Linda Schmidt

Conveniently situated on the north end of downtown Moab, the Bowen Motel has been serving visitors since the 1940’s. A true landmark, this well-known property was purchased by Dennis Lesmeister, a Minnesota import, in 1975. It is a true family business; when Dennis retired sixteen years ago, his son Tyson took over the helm, and is guiding it firmly today. The business is not only long-lived and successful, but expanding!

The keys to the Bowen’s long life? Without doubt, good customer service and quality with good value have established its strong base of repeat business. The Lesmeisters’ well-established independent property is very clean and attractively up-to-date. Most of the original motel structure was replaced years ago, and the current rooms have been remodeled repeatedly over the years.

Skillfully stuccoed without and within, the Bowen has a unique ambiance. Real wood furniture and handsome composite countertops give every room a fresh, clean appearance. The light tones of the walls and bedspreads are comfortably cool after a hot day of exploring. Specially contracted wall art of iconic local features adds not only beauty but excitement: hey, we really are in Moab!

Bowen Motel room types include deluxe king rooms, double queen rooms, queen rooms, and family rooms with two queens and a double bed. Every room features air conditioning, satellite TV with movie channels, Wi-Fi, a telephone with free local calls, and a microwave, refrigerator, and coffee maker. In addition to these in-room amenities, the Bowen has an outdoor heated pool (seasonal), a bicycle wash area, beverage vending machines and a guest on-site laundry. Due to its location, several fine breakfast restaurants are just a few minutes away.

Next to the office in the front building is the Bowen Guest House, once the Lesmeister home. It is wonderfully redesigned with clerestory windows, three bedrooms (one with a children’s room attached), two baths, a full kitchen, living room, dining room, and a washer/dryer combination. It also has a small fenced outdoor patio with a BBQ. Very appealing within and without, it is a perfect place for a comfortable, relaxed family gathering.

Tyson has kept a keen eye on Moab real estate properties that would enhance the Bowen Motel; one currently provides a large and convenient parking lot for guests’ trailers just behind the motel. The other is the Bowen Luxury House, and it is truly luxurious! Across a side street from the main property, situated amidst large trees, it looks special. And upon entering, it is breathtaking, with a spiral stair leading to rooms upstairs, antique furniture and matching décor enhancing every room. Each of the five bedrooms has its own very modern bathroom. The enormous kitchen is also fully modern. Outside is a patio, a large covered BBQ area, and a huge parking area. What a memorable location for a group visit—luxurious, practical, and affordable!

Open year round, the Bowen Motel, with its fine property and many options, will provide a perfect landing destination for your Moab experience!
