GALLERY HAPPENINGS February 2021

Elementary Artists at Gallery Moab in Februaryby Thea Nordling

Robyn Harmison (Kindergarten). The Moab community’s favorite art show returns to Gallery Moab this month! For the third consecutive year, we are hosting an art exhibit by select students at HMK Elementary. Students were selected by Art Coach Bruce Hucko and Exploratory art instructor Sena Nissen. “We could have easily filled the entire gallery with student artists,” says Hucko. “As it is, we chose most of this year’s artists by their obvious enthusiasm for making art.”

“In every grade there’s a handful of kids who are always making art,” adds Nissen, “they talk about it and bring in work they do at home. We wanted to celebrate their efforts.”

The 13 young artists represent all grades, Kindergarten through 6th. They are Robyn Harmison (Kindergarten), Evelyn Knight (1st) Winter Hannigan (2nd), Kyson Stewart (2nd), Breckyn James (2nd), Camilla Falcon (3rd), Nona Hadler (4th), Luke Wolfe (5th), Liam Mallory (5th) and 6th graders Kendra Hill, Bailey Althoff, Brianna Thayn and Fabian Vega.

These artists are making new work for the exhibit. Some are doing it all at home and others are attending two Friday Paint Parties hosted by Art their Coach. “The subject matter is open, and the kids can choose any combination of media they want,” states Hucko. “The room will be their studio and I’ll be their go-fer!”

Brianna Thayne has “soul” and uses hers to paint a comment on tourists and personalities. The “non-reception” for the kids will be held on Saturday, February 6th from Noon to 4 PM. In light of COVID, there will be no gathering of artists. All the artists, their fans and their community are invited to visit Gallery Moab on that day. The artists will be in and out so you might spot one. Art Coach Bruce Hucko will be there the entire time to visit and hopefully get a picture with his young friends. Come on down and get visually refreshed!

The youthful energy, playfulness, and fearless use of color shown by these budding young artists is a great tonic for the late-winter blues, as is the gallery’s vibrant diversity of fine art and artisan crafts inspired by the incomparable canyon country landscape. Our talented artists work in many different media, and each has a unique vision and personal style. We offer paintings, prints, photography, ceramics, wood carvings, fused glass, sculpture, jewelry, fabric art, cards and more. One of the artists is always on hand when the gallery is open to answer your questions and help you find the perfect gift or memento of your visit.

For your safety and ours, Gallery Moab follows COVID safety protocols by requiring masks indoors, social distancing, and sanitizing. We offer a colorful selection of 100% cotton masks in different styles made by our artists. Sale of these masks helps us pay the rent!

Open 12 noon to 4:00 p.m. daily. Call 435-220-0891 and we will gladly open by appointment during other hours.
