New Hospital Plans Move Forward

NEW HOSPITAL plans are moving forward. Earlier this year the Board of Directors of Moab Valley Healthcare, Inc. shared the footprint for the new facility, now named Moab Regional Medical Center. Since that time various meetings with providers, staff and community members resulted in a streamlining of the footprint to meet the needs of various medical care providers. The new footprint is in place and an artist’s rendering of the building’s exterior design has been submitted to the Board. Meetings continue so as to define the interior details of the integrated health care facility.

Since the launching of our fundraising campaign in June of 2003, the following events have taken place:

· Selected and engaged, JGA Architects, Engineers, Planners; Gene Vogl, Design Team Leader
· Footprint completed
· Established Development Department, David Drabner selected to head the department
· Artist’s rendering of the exterior design received
· Thermometer of fundraising and other activity is at $750,000.00 with an additional    $350,000.00 pending
· Board of Director’s announced its’ intention to include the hospital, long-term care and    professional clinics under one roof
· Other options include a retail pharmacy and physical therapy/rehabilitation clinic

Meetings continue with the MAPS Committee, Moab City Officials, as well as individuals, health care professionals and Board members to coordinate the campus layout in terms of the other facilities being built by other entities. Upcoming events will be announced as soon as dates are set. The ground breaking is scheduled for late this fall.

On-going fundraising opportunities are being coordinated based on type and amounts gifted by David Drabner, Development Director and Joy Trotter, Administrative Assistant through Allen Memorial Hospital. The Staff at Allen Memorial Hospital are taking on the Administrator, Marla Shelby-Drabner in a fundraising challenge to “Put Marla out on a limb” with their contributions. For every employee that donates to the project in 2004 Marla will also donate a given amount of money. This could end up being a large contribution from Marla based on the statistics. The Board members and the Medical Staff have also been challenged and are stepping up to the effort. With the Donate-A-Brick fundraiser and the very successful Night of a Thousand Stars dinner donated last fall by Sorrel River Ranch the project is certainly supported by the community. And to top it all off, Doug Garrett, COO/CFO recently stated, “The community is supportive of our project and the financials are reflecting that.”

Donations are being received from many outside the community as well. Rotary International holds an annual District meeting each year and historically supports a local charity in the community in which the meeting is held. This year Rotary International District 5420 has selected Moab as the site of the District Conference and Moab Regional Medical Center as the local entity to be gifted.

The excitement and support of the hospital project is certainly gaining momentum as we draw closer to the ground breaking this fall.
