Getting a Drink in Moab

Utah State law places some restrictions on where you can sit in an establishment when consuming alcohol
and whether or not you need to consume food with your drink.

For example, Zax, a locally-owned full-service restaurant, has an adult atmosphere in the Watering Hole, where you can order a cocktail with or without ordering food from their full menu. However, if you sit in the family dining portion of the restaurant, you need to order food to consume an alcoholic beverage.

Many Moab restaurants make speciality cocktails and alcoholic beverages a part of the dining experience. Restaurants that serve alcoholic drinks without eating include The Alley Sports Pub & Grill at Gravel Pit Lanes (beer only), Blu Bar, Moab Brewery, Spitfire Smokehouse, Trailhead Public House & Eatery, Proper Brewing Co., Josie Wyatt's Grille, The Spoke and The Watering Hole at Zax.

Utah State Liquor Store is where you can purchase bottled liquor, wine and beer with an alcoholic content above 5%.
The Moab store is located at 55 West 200 South and is open from Monday through Saturday from 12 noon to 7 pm.
The Utah State Liquor Store is closed on Sundays and Holidays.

Beer (less than 5% alcohol content) can be purchased at food stores and convenience stores (for take-out) off-premise consumption only. On-premise (you can drink it here) is available at various licensed locations, including taverns,
golf courses, bowling alleys, and restaurants that have the required license.

Utah law forbids open containers in or about any motor vehicle. A blood alcohol level of 0.05% is the limit to be declared “driving under the influence” under Utah Code.
