St. Patrick's Day in Moab
When Irish Eyes are Smiling!
by Charlotte Mates
In
honor of St. Patrick, Moab’s sons and daughters of Erin and Irish
at heart will again be marching down Millcreek Parkway on Sunday,
March 16 at noon. Beginning the third annual St. Patrick’s
Day Parkway Parade, Shirley O’Kelly and Mary Wright will honor their
late mother, Rosemary Carney Konapka, with the traditional presentation
of the Irish flag to Clan McGann. The McGann family is proud to be serving
as Grand Marshall in this years parade, which will begin at Rotary Park
at 12 p.m. and finish in Swanny City Park The theme for this years parade
and festivities is “When Irish Eyes Are Smiling.”
Everyone is Irish on St. Patrick’s Day and we look forward to the
smiling Irish eyes from the clan folk of the Murphys, Joneses, Gormans,
Fitzgeralds, McKinneys, and Keoghs. Also invited are the O’Holyoaks,
FitzTaylors, McShumways, Daltons and anyone else who enjoys a brisk walk
and good company.
At the conclusion of the parade, Irish music will be playing from Swanny
City Park bandstand and the Valley Voices will lead us in Irish songs.
All musicians, bands, artists and interested Irish men, women, and wee
folk are welcome and encouraged to participate.
In case of inclement weather, we will meet at St.
Pius X church hall. A pot luck luncheon will be held so please bring a
traditional (or non-traditional) Irish dish. However, in the interest
of parting from one tradition, we ask, no alcohol if you please. Come
join us and let smiling Irish eyes steal your heart away.
